Golf In The City On The Golf Show

The Golf Show: It’s time now to take a look at a wonderful new venue in Sydney that is giving golfers the chance to play some of the world’s top [golf] courses right in the heart of the city.

The Golf Show: During these times of economic uncertainty and with many of us struggling to make ends meet golfers are finding it harder than ever to make time to play or even take advantage of the tuition needed to improve their game … but now there is light at the end of the tunnel for Sydney-siders. Golf In The City is a new venue right in the heart of the CBD. It offers an experience like no other. Not only can you play a round on many of the world’s most famous courses but if your game needs a little fine tuning or even a complete overhaul you can make use of the designated performance studio.

Top Golf Coaches

The Golf Show: Golf In The City’s manager and teaching professional Andy Pharro was nominated as one of the top coaches in the UK for seven years and is a past director of London’s oldest and most successful golf school, The Knightsbridge Golf School. Andy has taught professionals, leading amateurs and famous celebrities this simple four stage swing, designed by the legendary Leslie King back in the 1950’s.

Andy Pharro On The Golf Show Talks Golf In The City

Four Simple Steps To Better Golf

Andy Pharro: “My introduction to golf was I tried to make it on tour. Probably like most golfers out there, I really struggled with the understanding of why sometimes I was good and, sadly, most of the time I was bad. I managed to find the Knightsbridge Golf School which was set up by Leslie King 63 years ago and they showed me the four stage process they work in to golf swings. What I’m able to do now as a coach is, having learnt that way and having the passion for golf that I have, I can actually start to create within my teaching methods the Leslie King four swing stages and implement it into my clients – four simple steps to create a better golf swing. Most golfers tend to create the same mistakes and just don’t know it. It’s a game of opposites so once, with the system we have here and the camera work that we have, we can start to show them the stages – real simple to create and build a new golf swing.”

Compelling Golf Simulator Graphics

Andy Pharro: “We have the Swing Catalyst which is a three camera system which allows us to monitor the front position and address. Also the behind the swing position and the above swing position giving us three angles on the golfer whilst they’re in our booth. This captures body movement from the top, side on and behind. The cameras are so good they can capture the club pre-impact, through impact measuring how the club hits the golf ball, the angles it comes in on and leaves the golf ball. The good thing about this system is we’re able to capture a voice activated lesson and also, obviously, the video coverage that we have we can send to each individual every time they come for a lesson. So, that age old problem when people come for a lesson is that they tend to forget a lot about the information they’ve been given. So, we have the availability with this software to be able to capture the whole lesson from voice to video coverage and send it straight to your iPhone or your hand-held system that you may have at home and then re-listen to and watch the lesson.”

The Golf Show: Some of Pharro’s clients include Prince Andrew, actor Hugh Grant and many of Chelsea’s football stars. He may now have settled in Australia but Andy can still attract former stars of Stamford Bridge.

I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Very real. I was playing with my partner. We played at St Andrews on the Links course and we really enjoyed the day. I live in the city so I’ll be down here quite regular.

Andy Pharro: “Whilst working at the golf school in London around us there were other golf schools open up with this idea of simulators, much more high-tech, with bars. When I knew I was going to immigrate I figured that when I came to Sydney with what I’d learnt to teach in the golf school in London I would add to that and put some simulators in with a nice bar effect and try to appeal to all the corporates for functions and golf lessons using the simulators. We have five simulators here so we’re trying to appeal not just on tuition but also to come in and use the simulators on a much more entertainment level.”

The Golf Show: There are five, state of the art, simulators in the main area where you can test your skills on over 80 famous courses including St Andrews, Pebble Beach and Royal Melbourne.

Andy Pharro: “We decided to go with Full Swing simulators for two reasons. One is easy operations. So, anyone can come in. We can give them a five minute training session on it and they can pretty much work their way around the whole system – real easy. Then the second one is the tracking device. We found that looking for and going through all of the different systems there are out there this was the best one because you can actually place your ball anywhere in the system and actually hit it from there which is really great because there’s nothing worse than hitting a  great golf shot and then having to play it again. So, a lot of the other systems you have to have the ball in the same place every time. So Full Swing for us, the booths are fantastic. Really easy to operate and the graphics are fantastic which is called E6 which is, at the moment, the best graphics you can buy on golf simulation.”

Andy Pharro: “We have installed a state of the art bar as well with Cueball TV which allows us to get all of the sporting events through Fox Sports. We have three TV screens behind the bar, a well stocked bar with up to date wines. So we appeal to people if they want to come down at lunch time, watch a bit of sport, come down and have a sandwich , some hot food, some drinks, go back to work – no problem.”

The Golf Show: Golf In The City is located in Spring Street right in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. For more information, or to book call 02 8964 9972 or go to their website golfinthecity.com.au.
