Roger Allen, a prominent technology venture capitalist, talks about where Golf In The City fits in the Sydney corporate landscape and how it will enable lovers of golf to access their game more easily.

“I want this to be at the premium end of the market, and the basis I used was that it had to be the quality of the Qantas first class lounge,” Allen tells The Australian Financial Review. “We based it in the city because a lot of the corporates say they don’t have time to go and play golf now. But on this, you can play 18 holes by yourself in about an hour.”

Allen, who made his name in the technology world with his former company Computer Power Group in the 1980s and 1990s is a golf tragic himself.

Allen wants the centre to be known for its coaching expertise. When former English professional golfer Andy Pharro moved to Sydney Allen helped him to establish a golf coaching centre in Sydney similar to the famous Knightsbridge Golf School where Pharro had worked.

“I went to visit City Golf, in the financial district in London just near the Bank of England,” Allen explains.

“So from there we came up with the idea of setting up a similar business in Sydney. Andy will be coaching here with Jason Wood, formerly of the Nike Golf Academy [in Britain].”

Golf in the City is located at 8 Spring St Sydney.
